Moving to the rhythm of music!

In honor of Hispanic heritage month, we took a tour to various countries throughout Latin America and learned about some sounds that are specific to them.

With the help of music and a close friend we did not have to leave our office!

Nadia acted as our guide and lead facilitator while we navigated through the sounds of instruments. We moved our bodies in cool, new ways and noticed that our bodies naturally fell into rhythm with certain songs.

On our visit to Colombía we learned the “sleepy leg”, a move that is done to a cumbia beat !

We also learned that “punta” a dance move with African roots has been adapted in several Latin American countries, including Colombía, Honduras and many more!

In the Dominican Republic we slid around and two stepped to “bachata”, a genre of music born there.

And our last stop was Puerto Rico, where we moved to reggeatón.

Next time you hear a cool rhythm notice how your body wants to move and where ever you are, allow your body to do just that. Remember that music has a way of lifting our spirits, allowing us to experience the roots of others and unite us!
